Fullbore Target Rifle: Involves prone position shooting at ranges of 300 to 1000 yards using specific calibres (typically .308 Winchester/ 7.62x51mm NATO) and non-magnifying sights, with 7, 10, 12 or 15 shots to count.
The North has a rich history in Team Competition, with success in matches against visiting and local teams at a very high level.
We also field ‘development’ teams where less experienced shooters can learn how to function well within the team setup. This involves more than just shooting as we deploy Coaches, Plotters and sometimes even Register Keepers, and so the total team can incorporate quite a number of individuals working together.
There are a number of individual competitions for TR across the season, notably starting with the NLRC Easter Open Meeting.
The pinnacle of individual Target Rifle marksmanship is the Sovereign’s Prize (GM) – competed for by many hundreds of expert international shooters annually at the Imperial Meeting on Bisley ranges, while the next most coveted prize is the Grand Aggregate (GC). To date, the North boasts 30 winners of the King’s/Queen’s Prize, each entitled to add “GM” after their name.
